Discover the hidden treasures of Kakadu!
This ten-day tour will take you off the beaten path, up to the heights of the sandstone escarpment that leads to the Arnhem Land plateau. Along the way, we will search for the ancestral signs of the Aboriginal people's presence on these culturally rich lands. With red or yellow ochre paintings, we are reminded that the landscapes of Kakadu are both natural and cultural. Perhaps during these days, you will feel the presence of the Aboriginal people who have lived in these places for more than 65,000 years.
Kakadu National Park is composed of an untouched, pristine landscape, almost forgotten by the modern world. This is the kingdom of nature. The park showcases the vast Australian wilderness, with savannah, gorges, cliffs, waterfalls, and creeks where swimming is a delight.
We set up camp by the river, ideally near a cascade or waterfall, to enjoy a swim while your guide prepares your dinner.
Départ: Darwin
Fin: Darwin
Durée : 10 days
The expedition starts early on the scheduled date. We will meet you at your accommodation in Darwin for our 3 to 5-hour drive to Kakadu National Park.
Once arrive, we will walk to our campsite and our first swim. Then we will explore the heights of the sandstone escarpment leading to the Arnhem Land Plateau, entering a world only a few have had the chance to see, a world of waterfalls, deep gorges, rivers and mysterious Aboriginal Art Sites.
We will be walking approximately 3 – 6 km per day. I plan to leave camp at 8:00 am each morning. Our day will start early to avoid walking in the heat of the day. We will return to camp around 3pm.
The weather in the area can vary significantly. In July and August, it is the dry season. Daytime temperatures can still exceed 30°C. The nights can be pretty perfect or quite chilly.
At the end of the trip, we walk back to the car and drive back to Darwin.
We require at least six participants for this tour to go ahead.

The Traditional Owners of Kakadu National Park are the Bininj People in the North and the Mungguy People in the South. They have a profound spiritual connection to this land, and they are considered the world's oldest continuing culture, dating back 65.000 years.
I want to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Kakadu National Park, where we will be travelling for 10 days, and pay my respects to Elders, past and present.
Kakadu National Park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1981, recognising both its exceptional cultural values (continuous culture and Aboriginal Art Sites) and natural values (fauna, flora, landscapes). Culture and nature intertwine through Cultural Landscapes shaped by the Creation Spirits during the Creation Time (Dream Time).
The Traditional Owners jointly manage Kakadu National Park and is the second biggest national park in Australia. The park is made up of seven distinct regions and has 6 seasons in the north, 5 in the south. The best seasons to explore it are Yekke in May/June, Wurrkeng in June to August and Kurrung in August/September.
Kakadu National Park is composed of an untouched, pristine landscape, almost forgotten by the modern world. This is the kingdom of nature. The park showcases the vast Australian wilderness, with savannah, gorges, cliffs, waterfalls, and creeks where swimming is a delight.
A variety of fauna inhabits the park, including more than 280 bird species (1/3 of Australian birds), 68 mammals, such as rock wallabies, bats, dingoes, black wallaroos and 120 reptiles, including freshwater and saltwater crocodiles. Additionally, 2,000 plants have been identified, many of which are used by the Traditional Owners for food, medicine, or making artefacts, shelters, or canoes.
We will start our journey in Darwin at your accommodation; a 3-hour drive will take us to Kakadu. From there, we will drive a track to reach the departure of our walk.
Over the next 10 days, we will explore one or two regions of the National Park. We will allocate about half of our time to the bottom of the escarpment and the other half to exploring the plateau.
We will search for magnificent Aboriginal Art Sites that feature all painting periods, from the ancient Archaic Period dating back 20.000 years, depicting animals- some now extinct- and Creation Spirits like the friendly Mimis, the less friendly Mamandis, or Algaigho, which is connected to Banksia trees.
To enjoy the most pleasant hours, we follow the rhythm of the sun, starting our day as early as we can. We will walk between 3 and 8 km each day, depending on what we discover, taking the time to appreciate it.
We plan to return to camp around 3 p.m. for that purpose. We will look for the best spots to set up camp by the river, ideally near a cascade or waterfall, so we can enjoy a swim.
At the camp, I will prepare our delicious three-course dinner and boil water in the morning for our breakfast.
On the final day, we will walk to the car and drive back to Darwin, where I will drop you off at your accommodation.
