Drysdale River National Park is one of the least accessible national parks in Australia. There are no public roads, no airstrips and no tracks so it is a really appealing environment for the Notraces philosophy.   The park is located in the North West corner of the remote West Kimberley. The Drysdale River flows through a pristine landscape of untouched landscape forgotten by the modern world. This is the kingdom of nature. The Park showcases vast tracts of Kimberley wilderness, and features open woodland, gorges, cliffs, waterfalls and the creeks of the Drysdale River. Over 600 species of plants are known to exist within the park. About 30 of these are aquatic and swamp varieties. A variety of fauna also exists within the park including 100 species of birds, wallabies, bats, sugar gliders and saltwater crocodiles. The river is a succession of large lazy pools linked by long rapids. Hidden in space and time are the hypnotic Gwion Gwion figures, an ancient Aboriginal painting style describing a forgotten time of dancing and ceremonies.

After landing on the Drysdale River, we pick up our packs and commence our 15-day exploration of the Solea Falls region. On day one,  we walk along the Drysdale River to reach a flat rock camp at the cooling water's edge. Here you can try catching a fish or relax and take in the majestic surroundings.

Over the next week, we will explore Lower Drysdale in search of absolutely exceptional cultural sites. As I like to say, if these very ancient  Rock Paintings had been painted in Europe, they would be known all over the world.  It is a testimony of the past which should belong to the world heritage of humanity like the Chauvet and Lascaux caves in southern France.

During our transverse of the lands of the Ngarinyin and Miwa People, we pass through the magnificent natural landscapes of the Drysdale River,  its tributaries, rock formations and experience as it was to the first human 65,000 years ago. The Solea Falls are the highlight of this area. We will take our time to fully enjoy these spectacular falls and the serenity it offers.  Day 10 returns us near our first camp where you can enjoy a rest day or come with me very early in the morning, to pick up the food we left behind on day one.  On day 11 we continue our exploration following the course of another tributary of the Drysdale River and then return to our starting point.

This is a rugged wilderness, getting lost in the labyrinth of ravines is likely without the skill of your guide. With my knowledge of the area over the past 14 years, you can enjoy a relaxing walk knowing I have your safety and enjoying covered.   If there is one region that is much better to explore with a guide, it is this one! ;)
