Discover the hidden treasures of Kakadu!
This three-day tour will take you off the beaten path, up to the heights of Jim Jim falls and further along the sandstone escarpment that leads to the Arnhem Land plateau. Along the way, we may discover the ancestral signs of the Aboriginal people's presence on these culturally rich lands. With red or yellow ochre paintings, we are reminded that the landscapes of Kakadu are both natural and cultural. Perhaps during these days, you will feel the presence of the Aboriginal people who have lived in these places for more than 65,000 years. We will camp on the banks of the Jim Jim river and on the flat rocks of a dried-up river where your guide will prepare your dinner.
Start: Darwin
Finish: Darwin
Duration: 3 days
Highlights: Waterfalls, swimming, gorges and rivers, Aboriginal art sites
From Thursday to Saturday
The expedition starts at 7:00am on the date nominated. We will travel 4.5 hours by 4WD to commence our exploration at Jim Jim Falls deep into the Kakadu National Park.
During the dry season, we can expect to encounter some people at Jim Jim Falls but as we walk up, we leave the crowds behind and enter a world only a few will see. For the next 3 days we will explore the heights of Jim Jim Falls and the sandstone escarpment that leads to the Arnhem Land plateau .
We will be walking approximated 3 – 6 km per day. I plan to leave camp at 8:00 am each morning. Our day will start early to avoid walking in the heat of the day. We will return to camp around 3pm.
The weather in the area varies during the dry season. We can expect the day time temperatures to climb beyond 35°C whereas during the evening the temperature can hopefully be much cooler.
