The expedition starts 7:30am on the date nominated. We will travel 2 hours by 4WD to commence our exploration at Sandy creek during the dry season or Lost City during the wet season deep into the Litchfield National Park.
We can expect to encounter day trippers at Sandy creek and Surprise falls during the dry season but as we walk out of these sites, we leave the crowds behind and enter a world only a few will see. For 9 days we will explore 4 creeks, Tjaynera, Red Rock, Mistake and Tableland creeks .
We will be walking approximated 5 – 10 km per day. I plan to leave camp at 8:30 am each morning. Our day will start early to avoid walking in the heat of the day. We will return to camp around 3.30pm.
The weather in the area varies during the dry season. We can expect the day time temperatures to climb beyond 35°C whereas during the evening the temperature can hopefully be much cooler.

Litchfield National park is a surprising world with two distinct areas. To the north is the tourist portion with the busy Wangi and Florence falls.
We will go where others do not go. To the south, the wild landscapes will slowly be discovered to the rhythm of our steps. It is a trip to the heart of the wild area of this national park that is proposed to you.
We will discover 4 rivers overlooked by tour operators. They are Litchfield's best kept secrets
This 9 days / 8 nights tour begins in Tjaynera Falls
and finishes at Tableland Falls in the South of Litchfield national park.
On the first day, we will reach our starting point at Sandy Creek, bathe in the majestic Tjaynera Falls basin
and then walk to our camp, located near a small waterfall with natural charm. We will stay 2 nights in the same place.
The second day in the morning, we will explore the surroundings of our camp in search of rock art sites. In the afternoon, I suggest that you store your daypacks in waterproof bags because we will need to swim to return to our camp. We will spend our time walking, swimming and exploring the turquoise and transparent waters of hidden tributaries,
flowing slowly through small gorges with a serene atmosphere, forming long pools that are very pleasant to discover by swimming. You don't have to be a good swimmer and you can stop for a rest where ever you want.
On this trip, I will provide a waterproof bag for your day pack.
On the third day we will reach the dizzying heights of Tjaynera Falls,
cross the open forest of an eroded plateau and fields of spear grass yellowed by the dry season. We will camp at the edge of pools fed by some languid cascades.
Along the way, we will have the chance to admire some Aboriginal Art sites. I discovered these sites during some personal exploration. Litchfield sandstone is renowned for not retaining traces of Aboriginal paintings making art site very rare in this region.
The fourth day we will cross the Reynolds river then we will climb on a plateau where eucalyptus, spear grasses and termite mounds form a typical landscape of the region. We will camp by the crystal-clear waters of the Red Rock River.
The fifth day will be spent exploring Red Rock creek and some tributaries. We will set up our camp near a waterfall.
On the sixth day, we will follow Mistake creek,
to a small rainforest.
On the seventh day, we will walk through the Savannah forest to join the course of the Tableland river and set up our camp near a cascade.
The eighth day will be entirely devoted to exploring the Tableland River, whose countless pools, cascades and waterfalls are a real swimming invitation,
until we reach the last pools
and the waterfall of Tableland creek.
Dry season
Wet season
On the ninth day, we will be headed to the South-East part of the national park to complete our walk
