Start: Darwin 8am on Friday 9 September 2022
Finish: Darwin between 4pm to 6pm on Sunday 11 September 2022
Duration: 3 days
The expedition starts 8:00am on the date nominated. We will travel 2 hours by 4WD to commence our exploration at Sandy creek during the dry season or Lost City during the wet season deep into the Litchfield National Park.
During the dry season, we can expect to encounter day trippers on the first day of the expedition but as we walk out of Sandy creek, we leave the crowds behind and enter a world only a few will see. For the next 3 days we will explore Tjaynera Creek .
We will be walking approximated 3 to 5 km per day. I plan to leacamp at 8:30 am each morning after our yoga session. Our day will start early to avoid walking in the heat of the day. We will return to camp around 3pm to enjoy a second yoga session at sunset.
The weather in the area varies during the dry season. We can expect the day time temperatures to climb beyond 35°C whereas during the evening the temperature can hopefully be much cooler.

This 3 days / 2 nights tour begins and finish in Tjaynera Falls
Tjaynera falls (sandy creek) video
On the first day, we will reach our starting point at Sandy Creek, bathe in the majestic Tjaynera Falls basin and then walk to our camp, located near a small cascade with natural charm. We will stay both nights in the same place.
Here is the view from the yoga site!
On foot but also by swimming, we will explore the turquoise and transparent waters of hidden tributaries.
.
The second day in the morning, we will have our sunrise yoga session. Then we will explore the surroundings of our camp in search of rock art sites. Litchfield sandstone is renowned for not retaining traces of Aboriginal paintings making art site pretty rare in this region. In the afternoon, I suggest that you store your daypacks in waterproof bags because we will return to our camp by swimming. The river with turquoise waters flows slowly through small gorges with a serene atmosphere, forming long pools that are very pleasant to discover by swimming. You don't have to be a good swimmer and you can stop for a rest where ever you want.
Backpack free, we will explore the bush
and enjoy the countless natural swimming pools.
I will provide a waterproof bag to protect your gear when swimming some of the long pools
or bathing in smaller pools
We will return to camp around 3pm. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the camp and to prepare for the sunset yoga session.
On the third day, we will have our last sunrise yoga session before reaching the dizzying heights of Tjaynera Falls.
We will be able to swim in a shallow pool with a view of the Litchfield plains.
We will resume our walk to a fantastic lookout before returning to Sandy Creek to complete our bushwalk.
